The Scholarship Application Process is closed for this year,
the nomination process for next year will being in early December.
Each year the Division of Student Affairs offers a number of Student Affairs Tuition Scholarship
Awards to undergraduate students who have made a significant impact on the quality of life for students and/or
employees at the University of Maryland. This year we are pleased to announce that three $1,000 scholarships are
available.
To be eligible for a scholarship, the student employee must be working within the Division of Student Affairs. Evidence of commitment to
the job, leadership, quality of work, accomplishments, and a genuine dedication to providing service to students and/or
the university community through the student’s position will be indicators of a nominee’s qualifications. All nominees
need to be in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or higher). All departments within the division are encouraged to
nominate students they feel are qualified based on the criteria.
To be eligible for the Student Affairs Scholarship Award, nominees must meet the following minimum criteria:
You must be a current student employee of a department within the Division of Student Affairs, and must have been employed for at least one full semester prior to the start of the 2012 spring semester. Summer employment will be considered a semester.
The department MUST fall under the Division of Student Affairs. For example, student affairs offices that fall under other divisions (e.g., Academic Affairs) are NOT eligible.
Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate student taking nine or more credits at the University of Maryland during the Spring 2012 semester. A student graduating at the end of the Spring 2012 semester is eligible.
Must be in good academic standing (GPA 2.5 or better).
The process for selection of the recipient is as follows:
- EMPLOYER NOMINATION: Nominations must be submitted
on-line by February 9, 2012 11:59 p.m. The nomination will serve as a
reference letter on the student’s behalf and asks for specific examples of outstanding service.
Please prepare in advance by creating your
answers in a separate document, so you can cut-and-paste your
responses to the
following questions about your student nominee:
- Why do you think the employee is deserving of the Student Affairs Scholarship Award and please provide specific examples of how the employee has demonstrated commitment to his/her position.
- Please list and describe the employee's job responsibilities.
- Quality of work and accomplishments on the job. Please include specific examples.
- Leadership within the department. Please include specific examples.
- Dedication to providing services to students, other employees, and/or the University community in general. Please include specific examples.
- Any other comments on the student's behalf?
- STUDENT APPLICATION:
After the nomination process has concluded, student records will be verified to ensure eligibility of all nominations. Eligible students will be contacted,
via e-mail, and required to complete an on-line application confirming interest in the scholarship. The application will ask the student to identify what he or she has learned through the
position and describe his or her contributions and/or qualities that deserve recognition. The application will be due by 11:59 p.m. February 27, 2012 Only
nominated students who complete the student application will be eligible to receive the scholarship award.
STUDENT APPLICANTS: Please prepare in

cut-and-paste your responses to the application questions below. Be sure to cite specific details and examples demonstrating how you are
deserving of the scholarship. The committee will be looking for evidence of commitment, leadership, quality of work,
accomplishments, and a genuine dedication to providing service to students and/or the University community through your
position.
- Please describe your job duties in the department where you work.
- In what ways have you demonstrated leadership in your job? Please provide specific examples.
- How, through your job, have you improved the quality of life for students at the University of Maryland at College Park? Please provide specific examples.
- Please describe your involvement in community service activities, in the past or present, if any.
- Are there other job experiences you have had within the Division of Student Affairs that you would like us to consider in addition to your current job? Please describe that job and those experiences.
- Is there anything else you would like to tell the committee?
- IN-PERSON STUDENT INTERVIEW: A selection committee will review nominees’ materials and will conduct
interviews with selected students. Interviews will be conducted from March 5-7, 2012.
